1951-1970

THE THIRD WAVE OF FINNISH IMMIGRATION plus

Over 20,000 Finnish immigrants arrive in Canada because of the employment opportunities,
economic instability in Finland, and fears of conflict in Europe.

1960

RISE OF THE NEW DEMOCRATIC PARTY plus

In 1961, the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation and the Canadian Labour Congress merge to form
a new political party, the New Democratic Party of Canada. Tommy Douglas, the long-time CCF premier of
Saskatchewan is elected the first leader. The amalgamation brings together organized labour and the political left.

1962

ESTABLISHMENT OF THE FINLANDIA CLUB OF PORT ARTHUR plus

Third Wave Finns are instrumental in establishing the Finlandia Club of Port Arthur and becoming major shareholders
of the Finnish Building Company Limited founded in 1908. The Finnish Labour Temple is designated a National
Historic Site of Canada in July 2011.

Yli 20000 suomalaista siirtolaista saapuu Kanadaan syinä työmahdollisuudet, taloudellinen epävakaisuus Suomessa ja pelko ristiriidoista Euroopassa.

1960

UUSDEMOKRAATTISEN PUOLUEEN SYNTYMINEN (NEW DEMOCRATIC PARTY) plus

Vuonna 1961 osuustoiminnallinen kansanyhteison liitto (The Cooperative Commonwealth Federation) Ja Kanadan työväenliitto (The Canadian Labour Congress) yhdistyvät muodostaakseen uuden poliittisen puolueen ( the New Democratic Party of Canada). Tommy Douglas, pitkäaikainen Saskatchewan-maakunnan pääministeri valitaan puolueen ensimmäiseksi johtajaksi. Tämä yhdistyminen kokoaa yhteen järjestäytyneen työväestön ja poliittisen vasemmiston.

FINLANDIA CLUB OF PORT ARTHUR PERUSTAMINEN plus

Kolmannen siirtolaisaallon suomalaiset ovat avainasemassa Finlandia Clubin perustamisessa, ja Finlandia Clubista tulee vuonna 1908 perustetun The Finnish Building Company-yhtiön pääosakkeenomistaja . Heinäkuussa 2011 Suomalainen Työntemppeli (The Finnish Labour Temple) nimitetään kansalliseksi, historialliseksi kohteeksi Kanadassa.(National Historic Site of Canada).
